A light-hearted take on electricity issues in rural India
In today’s time, we need to be vigilant about everything. This film will make people aware, and make them think about these issues. SHREE NARAYAN SINGH, FILM-MAKER
After the huge success of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), director Shree Narayan Singh is all set for his next directorial, Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead, the film is a lighthearted social drama that focuses on the issue of inflated electricity bills due to faulty meters, in small cities. Yami Gautam also features in pivotal role in the film. Though, it is set up in a small city of Tehri in Uttarakhand, the issue is relevant all across India.
A source reveals, “The film revolves around the story of three friends played by Shahid, Shraddha and Divyenndu Sharma, who believe in living life to the fullest. Batti Gul Meter Chalu will also see the reunion of Shahid and Shraddha, the much-loved pair of Haider (2014). Ever since the release of the trailer, it has been appreciated for its local dialect and set up. Shree did a lot of research to maintain the authenticity of the story. The team, too, had a wonderful time shooting the film in Uttarakhand, learning Garhwali and exploring Tehri.”
Talking about the film, Shree says, “It’s such a great feeling. What a journey it has been. I am looking forward to the film. In today’s time, we need to be vigilant about everything. This film will make people aware and make them think about these issues.”
Producer Bhushan Kumar says,“Batti Gul Meter Chalu may be an unusual subject for people living in metros. The issue of power cuts and inflated bills is something that not all of us have experienced first-hand. Shree has convincingly managed to tell a tale which is rooted in a small town but any sensitive person residing anywhere will be able to relate to it.”
Batti Gul Meter Chalu, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Nitin Chandrachud and Nishant Pitti under the banner of T-Series and Krti Pictures, releases today.
