Arjun Kanungo took a break from music in 2013 and went abroad to learn acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York, US. After finishing his training in method acting school, Arjun was keen on doing a musical theatre and pursue acting in India. Two weeks after he came back in 2014, he was signed by a music label.

“It was really funny how when I wanted to become an actor, music opened its doors to me. Years ago, when I was keen on starting off as a musician, I was getting a lot of acting offers,” laughs Arjun, who will soon be seen in a comic role in an upcoming web series and also has a guest appearance in a soon-to-release Bollywood film.

Ask him if ever thought of getting a proper launch as an actor in Bollywood, and he says, “Well, the launch only matters if you are introduced by someone who is a part of the industry. But I don’t know anyone from the industry. My family is into business and in no way connected to it. When I met [filmmaker] Mohit Suri, he guided me for future. He said that I can start my work in the industry either via someone [industry insider] launching me or I have to sail through my skills. So, I am focusing on my effort and talent,” says Arjun, adding that he is hopeful that the audience will like his work in both his upcoming acting endeavours.

Now that he is thinking of taking his career in acting ahead, what are the kind of films is he keen on doing? “I would love to do a film in the action genre. I have trained in martial arts and have been a National level-medal winner in pistol shooting. My mum (Sheila Kanungo) has won medals in Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, and I have learnt pistol shooting from her. So I think a crimethriller that has something to do with pistol shooting would be great,” shares Arjun.
