Creativity is out, TRPs and business in, feels Adaa Khan
Actor Adaa Khan isn’t happy with the way she feels the TV industry functions these days, with how money matters over creativity.
“More importance is given to TRPs for a show rather than focusing on bettering the content. I don’t think that’s the right approach at a time when the audience has other easily available mediums like the big screen and web for their daily dose of entertainment,” she says.
The lack of quality scripts and content was what made Adaa take a break after Naagin 2 ended last year. What kind of roles or genres does she want to explore? “I have a lot of roles that I like, but they have already been done by other actors. I don’t want to repeat the same and be compared to the actors who have already set a benchmark. I want to do characters that will define me as an actor and people will also remember me for. In this one year I’ve been choosy about my roles and refused many of them. Though I played a negative role of Amrit in Amrit Manthan, but people still remember me for that. They also loved Shesha from Naagin,” shares Adaa.
And during her break, the Behenein and Piya Basanti Re actor not only took time out for travel, but even got a new photo shoot done, in a bid to make a fresh start. Looks are admittedly important, but can they be the sole criterion for being a good actor? “If you see Alia Bhatt in Udta Punjab (2016), she did fabulous acting, so you don’t need to look good to be a good actor. As far as the shoot is concerned I wanted to try something different and I’m so happy with how the pictures have come out. They look amazing. I wanted a nice mix of traditional as well as western looks,” Adaa says.
