Hina Khan believes in keeping her birthday celebrations simple. “I am not a party person. I like to be with my family and have a close-knit affair with my friends at home or a quiet dinner somewhere else. I don’t like anything elaborate or big bashes,” says the actor, who turns a year older today.

Hina admits she has never had a big party with a large number of guests. “Now is when I should be saving money and not spending it on parties (laughs). It’s not worth it, as your close friends are the ones who always have your back and not the hundred people you invite at your birthday party. What is the point in celebrating your birthday with people who don’t really matter? I feel it is a bit superficial to throw a big party,” she says.

Everyone likes to get gifts on their birthdays, but Hina loves to give herself birthday presents. Every year, she decides on a gift and works towards getting it. “This year, I wanted to buy a luxury car, and finally I, bought one. Earlier, I worked towards getting a big house and even a long vacation, and I did that,” the actor says.

And just like her birthdays, Hina feels it’s paramount to be happy and satisfied with one’s work. “That is what success is to me. One should be satisfied with their achievements, otherwise, the idea of achieving success has no end. After spending more than half-a-decade in the industry, I can say that the industry teaches you never to get comfortable or feel like you have ‘arrived’. One must keep working and improving every day.”

The actor definitely isn’t one to go back on her words — after exiting her hit TV show, she participated in two reality shows and showed her fashionista side to the world. “I transformed myself after I quit my TV show and today I am called a style icon by many. I worked towards it, and I am happy about the recognition, though I feel I have a long way to go when it comes to style,” she says.

When it comes to style and fashion, Hina says she admires a few celebrities from Bollywood. “How you carry yourself and how you present yourself to the world matters. There are so examples in the industry. Look at Malaika Arora Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan; they look fabulous even today. Malaika is a bombshell. Age is just a number. They have delivered babies and yet are at their fittest. They are such an inspiration.”
