Amit Trivedi almost never says no to the projects he’s offered, and the 39-year-old doesn’t want to restrict himself to composing music for only Bollywood films. “I love music to death. It doesn’t really matter if I’m doing it for Bollywood, Hollywood, regional, or independent films, as long as the process and experience is amazing and enjoyable,” says Amit.

He has composed for the upcoming Telugu film, This is Mahalakshmi (a remake of the Bollywood hit, Queen), and feels that regional movie industries are very different from Bollywood. “Well I’ve just started my South journey, and so far it has been an exceptionally amazing experience working on the films. It’s a different industry with completely different musical sensibilities as compared to Bollywood, but I’m enjoying it thoroughly,” he says.

Amit, who is known for his music in films such as Queen (2014), Udta Punjab (2016), and most recently Manmarziyaan, says that he doesn’t necessarily try to be different from other composers when it comes to making music for films.

“There’s no conscious effort to be different. This is the only way I know how to do music and have been doing for years now,” says Amit. “It’s only when the music comes out and people say it’s different that’s when even I learn that it’s different.”

He continues, “My music is always inspired by the director’s vision and the script. I start thinking in that language. I dig deep when it comes to sounds and voices. Jaisi film, waisa music.”
