Soni loves Mahesh’s excitement over sharing screen space with her

Actor Soni Razdan is ecstatic that she got to act with her family members in two different films. She shared screen space with daughter, actor Alia Bhatt in Raazi (as her onscreen mother) and with husband, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in Yours Truly, which is her first film as a lead.

About the experience of working with Alia, Soni says, “Working with her was really special because we had a lot of scenes together, [although] many did not make it to the final cut. That was so cool that now she’s in a position where I, as a mother, can step back, be an actor, respect and admire her. There doesn’t have to be the thing of me being her mother. That’s nice about being able to work with somebody who is close to you, yet when you get on sets, both of you are professionals.”

Mahesh, who has always been behind the camera, gladly made an exception for Soni’s film. “Working with Mahesh has also been a special experience. He’s my husband, and his support to our film has been so helpful. He has enthusiasm, and I love the fact that he’s not an actor by profession, but he jumped into it when he got this offer. He was like ‘of course, I will do anything, it’s your film!’ (laughs) We were so happy to have him on-board,” says Soni, adding that this year has been more relaxed for her compared to last year.
