Soha open to acting, but in projects that are worth her time

-

Actor Soha Ali Khan, who turned author with her book The Perils of Being Moderately Famous, last year, says that she does not attach much value to fame, stardom, or coming from a film family.

“I’ve always had a very clear perspective on things.

I do not attach too much value to fame.

I understand that money is important because financial independence is empowering, to make choices,” she states. Soha, whose brother is actor Saif Ali Khan, and was born to the illustrious celebrity couple of actor Sharmila Tagore and former cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, says she doesn’t believe in hoarding more than what’s necessary.

“I want money to lead my life on my own terms... so that I can afford my juicy kiwi... But it doesn’t go beyond that. There is no obsession. Fame certainly cannot be the main element of my identity because today’s star is tomorrow’s forgotten one,” says the actor, whose daughter Inaaya Naumi turned one, this September.

Soha grew up in Delhi, and says her childhood had never to do with the frills of stardom or Bollywood.

“Ammi had stopped working for those years. However, the wide exposure to the industry happened when I started living in Mumbai and eventually joined the film industry. I joined films because of acting, not for glamour,” says the actor. And much like her mother, motherhood seems to have certainly altered the course of Soha’s priorities, too. “My daughter is very young and I am shaping her, equipping her to take on the world, I want to live by example for my daughter... Parenting is a very important job and I want to do it well. That does not mean I do not want to act, but it has to be worth committing my time,” she signs off.
