Actor Yami Gautam recently starred in the film Batti Gul Meter Chalu, which was set in Tehri, a small town in Uttarakhand. Though the film didn’t fare well at the box-office, Yami says she had a wonderful experience shooting for the film. She shares that she wants to be part of more such stories which highlight the diverse culture of India’s heartland.

The Kaabil (2017) actor also believes in the importance of nurturing talent that hail from such small towns of the country but does not get its due platform and recognition.

According to a source, “Yami has started believing very strongly that she needs to get associated with projects that are backed by talented writers and has a script that is deeply rooted in the true Indian spirit.”

As an actor, Yami also wants to read interesting stories from different parts of the country, which makes her believe that even audience would be excited for such quality cinema.

“As actors, we crave to hear stories that make us both excited and imaginative to be playing a certain part. I feel there’s an undermine and a lack of a cohesive encouragement and ways to bring up writers from smaller towns in India to Bollywood,” says the actor who hails from Chandigarh.

She goes on to add, “In my experience and upbringing, I have come to realise that a person from a small town brings his/her own nuances and cultural quirks. They have deeply rooted stories to tell and these can make for compelling cinematic watch. However, what we lack is the presence of such writers and platforms that can help these stories be heard. Personally, too, I crave to be part of such scripts that are greatly embedded in the Indian spirit and truly showcase sole true stories and culture dimensions that India has to offer overall.”
