Kalki keen on mainstream
Be it a sex worker in Dev.D (2009), a demanding girlfriend in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), a determined and strongwilled girl in Shanghai (2012), or a cerebral palsyafflicted teenager in Margarita With A Straw (2014), Kalki Koechlin never fails to make an impact with her unusual choices.
However, she admits that she does not get that many ‘mainstream’ film offers, adding she would love to be a part of such cinema.
The actor, who will be seen next in Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming Bollywood film Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, shares excitedly, “I don’t know what stops people from offering me such films that too when I had done them before. As an actor, I want to be a part of every story that excites me, nothing else really matters.”
Kalki had earlier told us she enjoys doing all kinds of films. The fact that she gets to do more ‘offbeat’ cinema is not something she is complaining about. The actor won several awards, including a National Award for her performance in Margarita With A Straw.
The actor, who has already finished shooting of Gully Boy, adds, “I play a music producer in the film who houses these boys from Dharavi (Mumbai), they are rappers. It’s an interesting movie that highlights the culture of Hindi rap, it’s quite a strong culture and something that has not been explored before. Also, I had worked with Zoya earlier, I like her a lot. She is a good writer and director.”
Talking about the other two films in her kitty — Scholarship and Haathi Mere Saathi, Kalki says that the shoot for Scholarship has come to a halt and as of now she does not know what’s the status of the film. “There was some internal problem, so I am not sure when will we resume shooting.
As far as Haathi Mere Saathi is concerned, I have shot for five days for the film. I will soon start shooting for the next schedule,” informs the actor, who will also be seen in the web series, Smoke.
