TV is great, so are films, but Rohitashv won’t forget his first love
Theatre has a special place in Rohitashv Gour’s heart. The stage kept him going, financially and artistically, when he didn’t have much work on TV or films. Now he’s busy with a comedy show, but when it’s over, the actor plans a return to plays. He says, “I’ve done a lot of experimental plays as a child. I did theatre in Delhi and in Mumbai, and when I didn’t have a lot of work on TV, theatre got me going. I worked with the likes of actors Shubha Khote and Viju Khote. I enjoy working on the stage, and plan to do a comedy or a play with a social message once my [TV] show is over.” More work in cinema is also on the wishlist of the actor, who has been in Pinjar (2003), A Wednesday (2008), and PK (2014). But right now, his TV show leaves him with no time for anything else; plus, he’s contractually bound to not sign any other project.
About the kind of films he’d like to do, Rohitashv says that he’s open to characters that make a difference to the plot — and the current trend in filmmaking is creating more such opportunities, he feels.
“Films have become actororiented; actors in supporting roles are also getting their due importance, which was not the case earlier. Take the example of Nawazuddin Siddiqui and his emergence. So, I think this is the right time to be a part of the film industry,” says Rohitashv.
