‘Not everybody wants a big commercial launch’

- Rishabh Suri

Actor Nandish Singh became a household name when he starred in the popular television show Uttaran. However, he wasn’t seen much on TV after this, and instead, we saw him in a small role in the film Dabangg 2 (2012), in the song Dagabaaz Re.

Now, he will next be seen in the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30, in which he plays his brother. Asked if it was a conscious decision to not do a commercial masala film as his leading role debut, he says, “Yes, it was. I always wanted to do a film which will portray me completely differently from what I am. It’s said everybody wants a big launch, but I think that’s not the case (always). I have seen a lot of people like Shreyas Talpade, who launched in Iqbal (2005), which wasn’t a masala, rather a small-budget film. Sushant Singh Rajput was there in Kai Po Che! (2013), Rajkummar Rao in Love, Sex Aur Dhokha (2010).”

Leaving TV for films, Nandish admits, wasn’t difficult. “I just made a decision quickly. I would say somehow I don’t get attached to things and decide. I take the leap, and I am open to taking risks. There’s only one life, I don’t know if I will be reborn. If I have something in mind, I might as well do it right now,” Nandish waxes philosophically.

He goes on to add, “I can’t stay in a comfort zone for long, so I can progress and learn new things. It’s easy to keep doing something, which you are good at, making good money and getting popularity. Even if I wasn’t an actor, but a nine-tofive job person, I wouldn’t be able to do that. That’s the reason I did hotel management in a five-star hotel. It was a comfortable job, I would report on time, I would get my salary, but there was no excitement.”
