Actor Mouni Roy is just one film old in Bollywood and has already bagged another two. The actor, who has been part of television for almost a decade, says she knew it would be difficult to break her image.

“I was very happy with what I was doing. I was content and thankful to God with what I have been doing on television. If there was an audition for anything important, I would go for it. I knew that there would be a stereotype around me and probably I won’t able to do anything about it. I was also doing a certain kind of role on television and it took a lot of time to break that image but all is well that ends well,” says Mouni, who will soon be seen in Bollywood films Made in China and Brahmastra.

The actor, who made her Bollywood debut with the recently released Gold, in which she was paired opposite actor Akshay Kumar, was aware that her success on the small screen had created an image of being a TV star. “I used to hear that ‘she has done good work, but she has done too much TV, Naagin is so popular’,” she says. Mouni made her TV debut with the mythological show Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev and went on to star in Naagin, Jhalak Dikhhla Ja 7 and Naagin 2.

“I always wanted to do films but I’m practical. Therefore I knew that it won’t be easy for someone like me, who has done TV for so long [to shift to films]. I was dancing in award functions, participating in reality shows and completely involved with TV,” she adds.

But despite striking ‘gold’ on the big screen, Mouni does not want to ditch television for films. “Now also I am very easy-breezy. I don’t want to completely leave television, I want to keep doing good shows and balance everything. I don’t know how that will happen, but I am doing my best to do that,” she says.
