Actor Kajol is happy with how things have been changing for the good in Bollywood, and one of them has been the different variety of films that people in the industry are willing to explore. On the work front, after Helicopter Eela, which saw her play mother to a teenage boy who goes to college to finish her studies, she is rumoured to be in talks for a film co-starring actors Shabana Azmi and Mithila Palkar (last seen in this year’s Karwaan).

There are also reports that she has started shooting for Taanaji opposite husband Ajay Devgn, who has been in the movie business for approximately the same number of years as her.

On whether the two discuss films at home, Kajol clarifies, “We talk about films on a very small scale. We both have very strong opinions on what we want to and don’t want to do, there’s rarely ever a question mark. We both know exactly what we are going to do. Nothing like that (me or him) approving each other’s scripts.”

On the professional front, Kajol adds times are exciting for actors as the quality of films has improved over time.

“We are now making films of a better standard than earlier, mediocrity has got a different name.

This is also because of the fact that there is so much more everybody is watching, there’s so much of international cinema… I wouldn’t even (just) say cinema, there’s so much information available on everybody’s phones!” she says.

One reason, she agrees, has been the demand for content from online streaming platforms. So, would she also try her hand at a web series?

“I would love to! I have always said that the platform you are working on doesn’t matter, so much as the meat you have got behind it. You have got to have that kind of writing behind it. I feel the writing is very important. Fortunately, because of these different mediums coming up, the writing is becoming much more interesting, better and cooler. We think ‘Oh yeah, now that’s something I would like to do,’” adds Kajol.
