Paridhi Sharma rose to fame with her two-yearlong show Jodha Akbar, co-starring Rajat Tokas where she played the role of queen Jodha bai. The actor did a cameo in Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum in 2016 and now returns to the tube with her new show Patiala Babes, on Sony Entertainment Television. Returning from her maternity break, she says, “The concept of Patiala Babes was refreshing where a daughter helps her mother learn the ways of the world. I am eager to see the audiences’ reaction to this show.”

She will be seen playing the role of a mother to a teenager in the show, and Paridhi is cool about it. She says, “My role is not just about being a mother but the role has many shades and layers. My role is pivotal but beyond that, she is a fascinating woman, which interested me. As for getting stereotyped as a mother onscreen, I did have apprehensions but I thought that I can’t restrict myself with such limitations. I believe that if you are honest with your craft then people will see that and offer you good roles. You won’t be stereotyped as people will remember you as a performer. Playing a mother is beautiful as mothers are the heroines of our lives. Mothers are the ultimate superheroes in our lives. We need to change our perspective to see our mothers as ‘heroines’ and not just see them in ‘supporting roles’.”

The success of Jodha Akbar was huge and taking a step back for her family and baby was a big step for Paridhi. However, she felt it was the right time to have a baby. Recalling the success of Jodha Akbar, she says, “That show was a turning point in my life and even today when the re-runs of the show are aired, I can see how people connect with the show. It established me as an actor in the industry. They say, ‘out of sight out of mind’, but the character has kept me alive in the mind of the audiences.”
