‘Content-driven films are giving actors more room’

Dino Morea is glad that he is making his web debut and comeback in Hindi films at a time when cinematic content is being given more importance, irrespective of who is starring in the project. This is a welcome change, says Dino and adds that it’s helping the art flourish.

“Look at the kind of films that are being made now — AndhaDhun, Badhaai Ho, Raazi, Manmarziyaan (all 2018) and Uri or for that matter the web show Sacred Games. All of them are focusing on making good content and not focusing on the wrong side [of giving importance to stars over story],” says the modelturned-actor.

While box office numbers are a proof that these films are getting accepted, Dino also feels it’s a good story that touches the right chord with the audience. “Such films and web shows are doing well irrespective of who all are a part of the project. At the same time, even actors have more scope to perform. Web shows are reaching out to a huge audience and even films are getting a wider release worldwide,” adds Dino, who was last seen in Bejoy Nambiar’s Solo (2017), which was a bilingual experimental anthology art film.

When quizzed about the genres that he wants to explore in the future, Dino insists that he plans “to go with the flow”. He explains, “I want to play characters that people will not only relate to but also like. It can be any genre — social satire, action, family, thriller or espionage. In a way, I am a little intrigued by the thriller space and have been longing to do a film in that genre. The [Hindi] film that I’ll be doing next is in that genre and I might also produce it,” says Dino, who is also producing another Hindi film, but won’t act in it.
