‘We don’t get the respect we deserve’

Tinaa Dattaa says acting is a tough profession, and like other fields, it requires a lot of hard work

Having made a mark in the entertainment industry with the TV drama Uttaran, which was on air for six years, Tinaa Dattaa admits it has not been easy for her, and has faced her share of ebbs and flows. “There have been lots of ups and downs in my career. It has been a roller coaster ride. If there are only rosy days, then you will get bored. So, I think a variety of flavours in one’s life are necessary. Uttaran made me who I am today, and people still remember my character Ichcha from the show.”

Tinaa is currently part of a supernatural TV drama and she feels luck plays a pivotal role in any actor’s career as “no matter how much hard work one puts in, it may not bring results”. She points out there any many hardworking people in the industry who haven’t got worthy opportunities. She says, “TV is loved by the masses and has a great reach. TV is no more an idiot box. As a medium, it is quite respected. An actor who has done daily soaps can act in any set-up. But sometimes, I think, we (actors on TV) don’t get the respect we deserve. Acting is a tough profession, and like other fields, requires a lot of hard work. We put in a lot of effort in our projects and that needs to be seen and appreciated by everyone. Moreover, the inhuman shoot schedules of shooting TV shows need to change.”

The actor, who hasn’t done any acting course, wants to stick to positive roles in her career. But she also has a wish list of roles too. She reveals, “Kangana Ranaut’s characters in Fashion (2008) and Manikarnika were quite challenging and interesting. If somebody makes a show on the character of Kangana from the movie Queen (2013), I would like to do that show as well.”
