He is undeniably the breakout star of 2019. Siddhant Chaturvedi made his way to audiences’ hearts with his role as the dynamic and lovable rapper and rap guru MC Sher, in Gully Boy — so much so that everyone thought of him to be a professional. And since his standout film debut, his life has taken a complete turn.

“It has been great. The best part of it is having a lot of choice in terms of scripts. From standing in audition queues to get an important part in a film, to actually having hundreds of scripts to choose from... I read one script every day. Being in this position is a different high altogether,” says the actor, whose first tryst with acting was with the web series, Inside Edge, in 2017.

Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar, is a musical romantic comedy about an underdog poet and rapper played by Ranveer Singh with Alia Bhatt as his feisty love interest. But despite the heavyweight star cast, Siddhant was not just noticed, but was the toast of the audiences and critics alike. “It is unbelievable. It is just one film and I didn’t even play the lead in it, but the impact was so much. Even when I recently won awards, people said that I totally deserve them. It is so positive and only motivates you to work harder,” he muses.

And Siddhant is on a roll. While he had a memorable 2019, his dream run continues into 2020 as well. He is set to star in Bunty Aur Babli 2, alongside the likes of Rani Mukerji, and Saif Ali Khan, Shakun Batra’s next with

Deepika Padukone and Ananya Panday, besides a third film, that too, is backed by a big production house.

“They are on the wish list of every actor. I’m going to work with the top three production houses in India. It is a dream come true and it’s all happening so fast,” he quips.

But Siddhant admits that it is a big pressure on him to deliver with his future films. “The stakes are high now. My next few projects are very exciting. They are different from one another. It is also close to what I really want to do in terms of dancing and comic timing. That’s my favourite genre because my favourite actor is Govinda. I want to showcase that. Then I have an action film; I love action movies. Now is the test. It is now time to live the dream,” concludes Siddhant on a positive note.
