Dutch-Moroccan DJ Fadil El Ghoul aKa R3hab has performed in India on numerous occasions, but for the first time, the 33-year-old has composed a Hindi single titled Ki Kehna. The track, which is a collaboration with Tareefan hitmaker Qaran, has topped the charts — something that doesn’t surprise R3Hab at all.

“I was a big fan of Qaran’s melodies and writing. When he showed me this song, I knew it was the one and I was very excited to work on it,” he says, adding that technology played a big role in this collaboration.

“Qaran and I spoke on Instagram after I heard his music. I had been watching his videos on YouTube. This song is a great example of East meets West,” he reveals.

Collaborations, the Dutch DJ feels, helps him develop new perspectives. “They are always based on music. If I’m excited about the song, I don’t care if the artiste is big or small. I will want to collaborate. I love collaborating with artistes from different cities and backgrounds, because they have fresh ideas and bring new perspectives,” he says

R3Hab has always been inclined towards Indian music, and admits that he has always been drawn towards the energy around it.

“I grew up in Morocco and during my childhood days, Bollywood films were very popular in the theatres [there]. I always loved the energy that is in Indian music, especially the rhythms and percussion. I see this energy in Indian crowds, who are some of the most energetic in the world,” he opines.
