TRYST WITH SCIENCE, COSMOS AND UNIVERSE

The year 2020 doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Shocking — this one word alone sums up the news of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, considered to be one of the most talented actors in Bollywood, being no more. News started trickling in on Sunday afternoon that the 34year-old had died by suicide and was found hanging at his Bandra, Mumbai house. While the reason isn’t clear yet, unconfirmed reports suggest that Rajput was suffering from depression.

From the makers of his films, and co-stars, to people who hadn’t worked with him, everyone took to social media to express their sadness at this sudden news. The news comes barely a week after Rajput’s ex-manager, Disha Salian, died under mysterious circumstances.

The bright-eyed boy from Patna had everyone impressed with his dancing and acting skills from the word go. Rajput was a rank outsider, with no film connections. From Pavitra Rishta, his popular TV show, to then starring in films such as Kai Po Che! (2013; his film debut), MS Dhoni- The Untold Story (2015) and Chhichhore (2019), his last theatrical release, Rajput won praise every single time in a film career spanning seven years.

Rajput’s upcoming release Dil Bechaara, was directed by Mukesh Chhabra. The film was originally slated to release in 2019, was pushed to May 2020, and again postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown that followed.

Sushant Singh Rajput, besides his acting skills, was also known for his love for science and outer space. An alumni of Delhi College of Engineering (now Delhi Technological University), the actor, even after joining films, kept his passion for science alive. His Instagram feed was filled with posts about science and technology. The actor, who admitted that he wanted to be an astronaut, was also a proud owner of an advance telescope called the Meade 14 LX600 as well as a new Boeing 737 Fixed Base Flight Simulator. And his love for space didn’t stop there, back in 2018, the actor also had bought a land on the far side of the moon, in a region called the Mare Muscoviense, or the Sea of Muscovy. Last year, Rajput ticked off another dream from his bucket list when he visited CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, that operates the largest particle physics lab in the world and shared a picture from the Large Hadron Collider.
