Kangana’s Twitter account ‘permanently suspended’
Actor Kangana Ranaut’s Twitter account was ‘permanently suspended’ yesterday after she posted a series of provocative tweets in reaction to the alleged violence in West Bengal, following the assembly election results. A spokesperson from the micro-blogging site said the actor has been found to repeatedly violate the platform’s rules.
“We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our
Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy..,” the Twitter spokesperson said.
Reacting to the move, Ranaut later told news agency ANI in a statement that the suspension of her Twitter account was proof of the micro-blogging site’s “entitlement”.
She said, “Twitter has only proved my point they are Americans and by birth, a white person feels entitled to enslave a brown person. They want to tell you what to think, speak or do. Fortunately, I have many platforms I can use to raise my voice including my own art in the form of cinema. But, my heart goes out to the people of this nation who’ve been tortured, enslaved and censored for thousands of years and still there is no end to the suffering.”
Earlier this year, Twitter imposed certain restrictions on Ranaut’s account after she posted an incendiary tweet against the web series, Tandav. In April 2020, Ranaut’s sister, Rangoli Chandel’s Twitter account was suspended.
