The Supreme Court has stayed the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) order directing Yash Raj Films (YRF) to pay a compensation of ₹10,000 to a consumer who was aggrieved by the exclusion of the song Jabra Fan from Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Fan (2016).

A bench headed by Justice Hemant Gupta also issued a notice on Monday to Afreen Fatima Zaidi, who had filed a complaint in the NCDRC.

Actor Nia Sharma is looking at the positive side of life at the moment and believes that the future will be better than the past. She shares that the pandemic has taught everyone to value their health. “I have lost work due to the pandemic, but I have not complained, as people have lost their lives. Aaj zinda rehna zaroori hai. I can’t cry about losing a project,” shares the Jamai Raja actor.

Talking about the recent death of actor Sidharth Shukla, she shares that even though she didn’t know the late actor personally, the news of his death hit her deeply.

She was in a reality show,

The complainant alleged that she was cheated, as the song Jabra Fan, which featured in the promos and trailers, was not a part of the film.

YRF’s counsel contended before the apex court that the song was meant only for promotional purposes, and the production house was under no obligation to include it in the film. It also argued that it is not a service provider and the complainant availed ‘services’ of the cinema hall, not that of the production house. for a day, and when she came out, she was hit by this unfortunate news. Recalling the moment, she shares, “It hit me so hard. I was crying for almost 20 minutes. I felt like the world had crashed. I didn’t know what this (life) was all about? What are we running after? What does fame mean? My head was exploding with these questions. The surge of emotions was tough. It was not easy to accept.”

Sharma adds that so many people spoke about Shukla right after his death, which she feels was unnecessary. “He was a huge star... everyone cried for him and everyone wanted to cover the story, but things went too far and too many insensitive moments could have been avoided,” the actor ends.

Zaidi claimed her children did not have food on the night when they went to watch the film in a theatre, because they were disappointed that the song was not played. This, she added, led to a spike in their acidity levels and subsequently, hospitalisation.

YRF argued that mere non-inclusion of the song has not caused any loss to the complainant, and that the claims are exaggerated.
