Academy leaders meet Smith before an emergency board meeting

-

To discuss the Oscars slap incident, the leaders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences met with actor Will Smith on Tuesday before the emergency board meeting.

According to Variety, Academy president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson spoke with the 53-year-old actor via video call about the aftermath of the assault on comedian Chris Rock during Sunday’s Oscars ceremony.

The conversation lasted about “30 minutes”. Smith apologised to Rubin and Hudson once more for his actions during their “brief” talk and tried to explain why he snapped when Rock made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair, who has alopecia.

Following that meeting, the Academy announced that Smith had violated the group’s code of conduct and faced “suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions.”

AHawaii judge has granted a couple’s request for a temporary restraining order against actor Ezra Miller, who is known for playing The Flash in Justice League films.

The couple filed a petition for a temporary restraining order on Tuesday, alleging that Miller burst into their bedroom and threatened them in Hilo, a small town on the Big Island.

The petition also accused Miller of stealing some of their belongings, including a passport and wallet.

Days earlier, Miller allegedly harassed patrons at a karaoke bar. Late Sunday, police were called to Margarita Village in Hilo, where they said Miller yelled obscenities, grabbed a mic from a singing woman and lunged at a man playing darts.

“The bar owner asked Miller to calm down several times, to no avail,” police said in a news release.

The actor was arrested at the bar shortly on Monday and charged with disorderly conduct and harassment. He was released on $500 bail.
