K.G.F: CHAPTER 2

t was only recently that I watched K.G.F: Chapter 1, and in all honesty, I was a bit lost. But with its sequel, K.G.F: Chapter 2, director Prashanth Neel has created something way more immersive and worth all the three-and-a-half year long hype. The film recreates the dark world where chopping heads and slitting throats is a norm, and takes off right where the first part ended.

As Anand Ingalagi (Anant Nag), the author of El Dorado, is hospitalised and can no longer narrate the story of KGF (Kolar Gold Fields), his son Vijayendra Ingalagi (Prakash Raj) takes over. In his words, Raja Krishnappa Bairya aka Rocky Bhai (Yash) has built an “indestructible empire” and wants to conquer even more. While he has killed Garuda in part one and turned ruler of the gold mines, the sequel sees him come face to face with Adheera (Sanjay Dutt), who won’t let an outsider takeover something that he helped build. Rocky’s power-hungry games have also caught the attention of Prime Minister Ramika Sen (Raveena Tandon), who orders his downfall and assassination.

One of the finest sequels to have come out in a long time, KGF 2 dives straight into the stories of the characters it had established in part one. It also introduces new characters, without interrupting the pace of the story or screenplay. Touted as a hard-core action flick, the way the scenes have been shot creates a visual spectacle in its truest sense. While most of KGF revolves around Rocky’s rise to power, chapter two gives a peek into his emotional side, his love story and flashback episodes that are a reminder of the intent behind his actions. The film is loaded with beautifully choreographed action sequences, heavyweight dialogues and larger-than-life characters you may not relate to, but will surely enjoy watching on screen.

Rocking Star Yash returns as a raw, ruthless Rocky. He isn’t your charming hero and doesn’t evoke sympathy, even in emotional scenes. He breathes life into his character and delivers his best in this action flick. His dialogues, no matter how weird, invite whistles, and even in the most serious scenes, he triggers laughter.

KGF 2 also introduces us to a ferocious antagonist in Dutt, who is menacing as Adheera. Even with limited screen time, he matches up to the charm Yash brings — their goosebumps-inducing action sequence towards the climax is total paisa vasool. And Tandon as the righteous prime minister delivers an earnest performance. Amid these well etched out parts, Rocky’s love interest, Reena, (Srinidhi Shetty) somehow feels like the odd one out.

All in all, KGF 2 is a perfect action potboiler, if you have a penchant for such films. If you can’t handle too much action and blood, you might not understand this world. But, Yash is just unmissable.

I feel sad whenever I realise that Chintu is not here to witness the wedding. But, life has to go on. I am sure he will be happy, dancing up there and blessing the couple.
