Poila Boishakh will be a total family affair for Sayantani

- Juhi Chakraborty

This Poila Boishakh is a rather special one for Sayantani Ghosh, for she will celebrate her first Bengali New Year after marriage. Talking about introducing her husband, Anugrah Tiwari, to Poila Boishakh norms and rituals, she tells us, “He has been introduced to them already as we have been together for a long time now. But this is my first Bengali New Year after my wedding, so it is all the more special.”

The festival, the actor says, will be a complete family affair. “My parents are here in Mumbai from Kolkata. My brother also got married last year in June, so this is his first Poila Boishakh after marriage as well. Now that we have Maa and Baba, it will be a family reunion. We plan to go to Kali mandir, as that is something we always do. In the evening, we have a group of Bengali friends who we plan to catch up with. And we will wear new clothes, that goes without saying,” she says.

Food is a big part of any Bengali festival. While Ghosh looks forward to these special days to gorge on Bengali delicacies, she says her husband isn’t much of a foodie. “Anugrah tastes everything, but he does not get excited about food as much as I do. Also, he is a vegetarian. Food is functional for him,” the 37-year-old says.

While she continues to celebrate the day in Mumbai for the last 17 years, Ghosh does miss celebrations om Kolkata. But, she makes sure that she makes it a complete Bengali celebration.

“I make sure I wear a saree. This time, I will also wear my shakha and pola (white and red bangles worn by married women) and sindoor. I definitely want to start the year with renewed hope. It is a new beginning, a new year. This year, I will seek blessings for a happy married life,” she signs off.
