Experience a handbook one can keep referring to
Back home. This is the Delhi weather I had talked about in one of my earlier columns. You should come here to experience the transition…. and also experience Formula One. It is some thrill. I won't be here as wife and I are planning to be at home for our first anniversary, although I am trying to persuade her to be at the race track. Wish me luck.
I met Mark Webber on Wednesday for a promotional event. What a great guy to know. As a kid, he used to play with Brad Haddin but then (thankfully!) moved off cricket and on to F1. But apart from his cricketing memories in Australia and a really strong handshake, we shared a few other things.
I asked him how he prepares for a race. Cleverly, he didn't spell that out (I should have realised that he is an Aussie and would never let these things out) but told me a few apt things.
He said that sometimes experience can be counterproductive. In his opinion, experience is sometimes like a monkey sitting on the back which keeps chirping things in your ear. And instead of flowing with the moment, one tends to do things differently. I am not sure, experience is like a handbook which one can refer to in different moments.
But I agree with his other thought. He emphasised on the need to keep things simple. He said that his coach keeps telling him to do the same things that he always did as this would give him the best chance to succeed.
Another sport that I am passionate about is hockey. The league is round the corner and I am looking forward to it. No points for guessing that I will be supporting Delhi sitting in the Dhyan Chand Stadium. I hope the owners find a nice, aggressive name for the Delhi team.
What I love about this sport is its pace, skill and energy exhibited for 70 minutes. You know, I was trying to watch a hockey game during the World Cup but it never materialised. Let's see if I am granted this wish this time.
By the time your read this, I hope the Delhi Daredevils are in the final. They have an all-round attack and depth in their batting lineup.
And like I said earlier, I wish the trophy is brought back to India. In the other semifinal, I feel the Sydney Sixers should be able to get through to the final. They have some tall fast bowlers and playing at the Centurion, the conditions should suit them.
