BOKARO: The district administration is gearing up to take action against those schools which have violated the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

Bokaro deputy commissioner (DC) Uma Shankar Singh held a meeting with top officials including sub-divisional officers SN Ram and Bhuwnesh Pratap Singh, district education officer, district superintendent of education and the district transport officer in this regard on Monday.

Talking to media persons, he said violation of the RTE norms would lead to legal action against the schools.

He said around 15 schools violated the RTE Act by taking entrance examination for nursery and preparatory classes.

He further said show-cause notices have issued to the schools and a fine of ` 25,000 could be imposed on them.

The RTE Act does not permit charging of re-admission fee but it has been found that schools were changing the same.

The DC said 13 schools have taken ` 1,000 for exam forms which come under capitation fee.

He said such fee was not allowed under the RTE and involves punitive action. One school was charging ` 750 from each student from nursery to Class 7 as electricity fee, he said.

Regarding 25% reservation for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) students in schools, Singh said it has come to notice that the schools were discriminating against these students by teaching them in separate classes.

He further said 31 schools of Bokaro and Chas were not taking safety measures while transporting students. schools.

The deputy commissioner said two high-level committees would inquire into the complaints and take action against the schools concerned.
