Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the 17th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday that he had an examination on Monday, referring to the General Budget, which is to be presented in Parliament on Monday. Modi made the statement while advising students appearing for board exams, for which he even roped in sports icons like Sachin Tendulkar and Vishwanathan Anand.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised students appearing for public school-leaving examinations to be calm and disciplined, invoking Harry Potter author JK Rowling to underline the importance of perseverance.

Speaking on his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat, Modi gave out a slew of tips and suggestions for students to stay focused and not be under pressure, days before the examinations commence.

He also referred to the Union Budget that will be presented on Monday, calling the crucial financial exercise as “my examination” .

“Set your targets and pursue them with a free mind, without pressure. Compete with yourself and not others. If we change our perspective towards examinations, we can be tension free,” he said.

The programme’s 17 edition that was aired on the All India Radio and Doordarshan also featured sports legends Sachin Tendulkar and Vishwanathan Anand, in addition to top scientist CNR Rao.

Tendulkar recalled his cricket days and asked students to set targets themselves and not be pressurised by others’ expectations.

“Be well rested and get a good nights’ sleep. Stay calm. Don’t be overconfident but don’t be pessimistic,” Anand said.

Children around the country will appear for the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) Class 12th board exams from March 1 to April 24 and the class 10th exams from March 1 to March 28.
