IIT-JEE ASPIRANT FROM BIHAR COMMITS SUICIDE IN KOTA
KOTA: An IIT-JEE aspirant enrolled at a local coaching centre allegedly committed suicide in Kota on Friday night.
Vigyan Nagar station house officer Jaiprakash Beniwal identified the student as 17-year-old Prince Kumar Singh, residing at a paying guest accommodation in Indira Colony. Hailing from Bihar’s Motihari region, he had arrived in the city only a month ago.
According to police, Singh’s fellow-residents had seen him outside his room at 9 pm. When one of his friends knocked on his door an hour later, Singh did not open the door. Upon being informed about this, the owner of his paying guest accommodation broke the lock and entered – only to find Singh hanging from the ceiling fan.
The student’s body was taken to the mortuary of the Government Maharao Bhim Singh Hospital, and an autopsy was slated to be conducted after the arrival of his relatives on Sunday morning. Singh had reportedly spoken to his parents before committing suicide.
Kota superintendent of police SS Godara said the reason for Singh taking the extreme step couldn’t be ascertained because the student hadn’t left behind a suicide note. “We are probing the matter,” he added.
Singh’s death has taken the number of suicides committed by coaching students in Kota to nine this year. As many as 20 had taken the extreme step in the city last year, following which the district administration issued a number of guidelines to ensure a stress-free environment for students.
