Dayashankar’s family now files a counter FIR against Mayawati
LUCKNOW: Even as the 36-hour deadline given by the BSP for the arrest of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh ended on Saturday morning, the city police were in a dilemma as Singh’s family registered a counter FIR against BSP chief Mayawati and three of her senior leaders under almost similar IPC sections here on Friday.
Singh has been on the run since making an alleged derogatory comment against Mayawati on Wednesday. During Thursday’s protest, BSP workers allegedly used derogatory comments against Singh’s family members, who lodged the counter FIR on Friday.
Singh’s family have demanded similar ‘eagerness’ by the police to arrest the BSP leaders.
Singh’s wife Swati said the police had launched a massive hunt soon after the registration of FIR against her husband on Wednesday. “Although my husband apologised for his remark and was expelled from the party, still I am not opposing the police action but want similar promptness by cops in the FIR registered against Mayawati and three other BSP leaders,” she said, adding, “The law should be equal for all.” Swati said she and her minor daughter were equally hurt by the abusive remarks of BSP leaders as Mayawati is hurt with her husband’s remark.
“The lawyers’ fraternity will provide full legal support to Singh’s family as law does not allow anybody to commit offence in retaliation to an offence,” said former president of Lucknow Bar Association, Dilip Srivastava.
