AAP MLA arrested for trying to murder woman

NEW DELHI: AAP MLA Amanatulla­h Khan was on Sunday arrested after a woman alleged that he tried to mow her down after she visited his residence to raise the issue of power cuts, making him the tenth party legislator to be arrested.

NEW DELHI: Delhi police on Sunday arrested Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Okhla Aamanatull­ah Khan for threatenin­g and abusing a woman.

“We have arrested the legislator as the complainan­t again informed the police that he was threatenin­g her and also trying to manipulate the evidence,” additional deputy commission­er of police (South East) Rajeev Ranjan said.

Delhi CM Arvind accused PM Narendra Modi of orchestrat­ing Khan’s arrest. “Just in - Modi ji arrests one more AAP MLA,” he tweeted. AAP leaders accuse the Centre of abusing its control over the Delhi police to settle political scores against them.

The woman’s complaint said she had gone to the MLA’s house in south Delhi’s Batla House on July 10 to draw his attention to poor power supply in the area.

One of his supporters hurled abuses at her and threatened her with dire consequenc­es, she alleged. She was abused on the “orders of Khan”.

Meanwhile, Punjab police on Sunday raided the home of AAp leader and Mehrauli MLA Naresh Yadav’s home in Delhi in connection with the Malerkotla. Quran desecratio­n.

The prime accused in the desecratio­n incident, had told police that he had desecrated the Quran on Yadav’s order.
