Dhanbad cops enforce traffic rules, 142 violators challaned
DHANBAD: For the first time in a decade, Dhanbad witnessed two consecutive accident-free days, with the city police cracking down on traffic violators under ‘operation road safety’. As part of the exercise, the police challaned 142 people, realising a fine of `1.09 lakh from them.
The police put up checkposts at Bank More, Shramik Chawk near railway station, Puja Talkies roundabout and on the National Highway-32, near Sadar police station.
Deputy superintendent of police-cum-district traffic in-charge Ashok Tirkey said those challaned were caught for rash driving, triple-riding on two-wheelers, negligent driving and riding a two-wheeler without a helmet. The police also removed tinted glass of half a dozen four-wheelers belong to leaders of different political parties.
“The drive aims at controlling rash driving, driving bikes without wearing a helmet, triple riding on two-wheelers, using a mobile while driving, driving while intoxicated, parking in undesignated areas, or driving without a license and other relevant documents,” Tirkey said.
He said check-posts will be put up on a rotational basis in different areas of the city to ensure road safety. “This is the first time in a decade that a road accident was not reported in the district”, he said.
