DHANBAD: Two Maoist-affected blocks of Dhanbad district are set to get a police station each — at Maniadih village in Tundi and at Ghoshadih village in Eastern Tundi.

Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) Saket Kumar Singh identified land for setting up the new police stations on Saturday. Dhanbad senior superintendent of police MR Chouthe and other police officials were present during the process. Singh instructed Chouthe to initiate the process of getting the land transferred to the police department in both cases so that the police stations can soon be built.

Singh also directed the Dhanbad police to ensure that all its police stations have female staff. “The presence of women in the police stations will help boost confidence among the visitors,” the DIG said.

Maniadih, located in a dense forest at a distance of around 45 km the from district headquarters, is the native village of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Kumar . Initially, the Maniadih police station will start operations at the Mahiadih police picket and later would be shifted to suitable location.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Tundi block, which was carved out of Tundi six years ago, had no police station, with residents forced to travel to Tundi police station to file complaints. The police team has inspected government land in Ghoshadih, which is right next to the Dhanbad-Jamtada road.
