RAMGARH: A Bihar resident, identified as Sharwan Kumar (30), drowned in the confluence of rivers Damodar and Bhairavi near the Rajrappa temple of Ramgarh district on Sunday.

“Sharwan Kumar had come to Rajrappa temple with his family. He was bathing near the confluence when he slipped and drowned,” an eyewitness said.

The police, taking the help of local people, started rescue operations. However, they could not find him or his body till the time of filing this report.

“We are making all efforts to search for the youth. So far, we have not been successful,” Rajrappa police inspector Munna Singh said.

Water levels are on the rise in the Damodar and Bhairavi rivers. The Rajrappa management has installed signs around its premises, alerting people to the danger.

However, despite these boards, many people drown in the area.

Locals blame the alleged indifference of the authorities for the same.

“The administration is apathetic towards the problem. No concrete arrangements have been made to save the lives of the people,” said Mantu Yadav, a shopkeeper.
