KOLKATA: Family members of a teenager — who died during a birthday celebration of his friend in a posh Sunny Park apartment — demanded that the autopsy of their son be recorded so that the accused cannot influence the probe in the case.

According to the police, the murder took place inside the house of Aruna, the daughter of writer and Sahitya Akademi Award winner Amit Chaudhuri.

“It’s a case of murder. We feel the relatives of the accused might influence the case and we are demanding a transparent investigation. Hence, we have sent a letter to the officer in charge of the Ballygaunge police station requesting him to record the post-mortem process,” said Aabesh’s mother, Rimjhim.

The police have accepted their request and recorded the autopsy process at the Kolkata Medical College morgue.

Seventeen-year-old Aabesh Dasgupta — a student of St Xavier’s Collegiate School — was found lying in a pool of blood on the basement of the apartment on Saturday evening.

He was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead. Investigation revealed that Aabesh went to a club in South Kolkata to celebrate Aruna’s birthday and then he, along with his friends, went to Aruna’s apartment in Sunny Park.

“A group of 17 friends went to celebrate Aruna’s birthday party at a South Kolkata club. They apparently had liquor there and came back to this apartment. Around 6 pm, the security guard heard a brawl from the basement and when they rushed to the spot, they found the Aabesh lying there. The security guard informed Amit Chaudhuri, who rushed Aabesh to the hospital,” said Vishal Garg, joint commissioner of police (crime).

Aabesh’s father Swagato Dasgupta was an assistant to film director Sandip Ray. He passed away in February. His mother Rimjhim is an interior designer.
