While some victims and families have received compensation but no legal justice, others were lucky to have received both. Unfortunately, some promises made by politicians or governments are never fulfilled.

Farmer GAJENDRA SINGH died at AAP rally in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. FAMILY VISITED BY: Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje Scindia, BJP President Amit Shah, AAP leader Sanjay Singh among others. STATUS: AAP paying school fees for children. Rajasthan government promise for compensation yet to materialize. Pledge to rename market after Gajendra not kept.

MATHURA, UP (JANUARY 2013)

LANCE NAIK HEMRAJ SINGH beheaded by Pakistani soldiers on India-Pakistan border.

STATUS: Compensation paid to family. Family given accommodation. Children studying in Army school.

HISAR, HARYANA (APRIL 2010)

DALIT TARA CHAND, 70, and daughter burnt alive after house is set on fire by upper caste neighbours. VISITED BY: Rahul Gandhi STATUS: some villagers yet to return fearing for their safety.

FARIDKOT, PUNJAB (OCTOBER 2015)

GURJEET SINGH, 28, died in police firing during protests over Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege

STATUS: `10 lakhs in compensation received. No one punished.

NADIA, WEST BENGAL (DECEMBER 1992)

DEAF AND MUTE GIRL raped by CPIM activist VISITED BY: Mamata Banerjee who took her to Writers’ Buildings. STATUS: Girl died of snake bite in 2009. Mother is near destitute.

NALANDA, BIHAR (OCTOBER 2013)

STATUS: Family says guilty is scot free, politicisation ruined the case.
