India wins a silver in Asian Beach Games
DA NANG (VIETNAM): India added another medal in the 5th Asian Beach Games with Harish Banghel winning a silver in the men’s middleweight Muay Thai event on the second day of competition here today. Banghel lost to Zhang Yongkang of China in the final of 71-75kg category to settle for a silver. Muay Thai is a combination of boxing and martial arts originated in Thailand. Yesterday, India had opened their medal account with Pinky Balhara bagging a bronze in kurash.
India has a contingent of 208 members in the 5th Asian Beach Games. The athletes will participate in 13 disciplines which include Swimming, Kabaddi, Handball, Kurash, Pencak Silat, Sambo, Ju-Jitsu, Woodball, Sepaktakraw, Pentaque, Shuttlecock, Voninam and Muay Thai. In the previous edition held in 2014 in Phuket, India had won two gold, a silver and seven bronze medals. DELHI TO HAVE OCA REGIONAL OFFICE NEW DELHI:The Olympic Council of Asia has approved the establishment of five regional offices, including one in Delhi, at its General Assembly Meeting in Danang, Vietnam.
Delhi will be the regional office for South Asia zone, according to a statement from the OCA. “The Olympic Council of Asia approved the road map for the future of the continent’s Olympic movement at the 35th OCA General Assembly in Danang, Vietnam. The road map calls for a series of regional offices in the OCA’s five zones,” the OCA said.
