Saloni sets new record in 200m breaststroke
RANCHI: Saloni Dalal of Karnataka set a new national record in the 200m breaststroke event by clocking 2:44.37 in the Glean Mark National Swimming Championship at Bir Budhu Bhagat Aquatic Stadium in Ranchi on Tuesday. Dalal broke Sajani Setti’s record of 2:46.39 minutes, set in 1997.
“This is not only a national record, but also one of the best timings set by any Indian swimmer,” Shailendra Tiwari, secretary of Jharkhand Swimming Association said.
He said Jharkhand swimmer Vaishnavi Sahu finished 5th.
Sayani Ghosh of Bengal won a silver medal with 2:45.09 while Harsitha Jayaram of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) finished third.
Aditi Dhumatkar of Maharashtra and Aaron D’souza of RSPB emerged as the fastest swimmer.
