Scene of a crash involving up to 20 vehicles on a highway in Connecticu­t, US on Saturday. Snow and sleet pounded a large swath of the US East Coast, coating roads with ice and causing hundreds of crashes. In Europe, a cold wave has left at least 23 dead in the past two days, including several migrants and homeless people, authoritie­s said, with the frigid temperatur­es expected to continue through the weekend. Russia celebrated the coldest Orthodox Christmas in 120 years, and even Turkish city of Istanbul was covered with a blanket of snow.
