Snow and sleet pounded a large swath of the US East Coast, coating roads with ice and causing hundreds of crashes. In Europe, a cold wave has left at least 23 dead in the past two days, including several migrants and homeless people, authorities said, with the frigid temperatures expected to continue through the weekend. Russia celebrated the coldest Orthodox Christmas in 120 years, and even Turkish city of Istanbul was covered with a blanket of snow.
