Theft suspect picked up from former MLA’s house in Dhanbad
DHANBAD: Police picked up one person from house of former Tundi MLA Rajkishore Mahto late on Wednesday night in connection with a major robbery committed at the house of a retired Tata Steel employee in Tundi block a week ago.
A special police squad under DSP Himanshu Chandra Majhi raided former MLA Mahto’s Chiragora area-based residence in the city under sadar police station and picked up one Ajay Sab, police said on Thursday. He had been living in Mahto’s house on rental basis.
Rural SP Amit Renu said, “Police have picked a suspect after interrogation of two arrested robbers. Investigation is on to find out whether the arrested person was involved in the incident.” Since the former
MLA was out of town at the time, his representative Haldar Mahto said arrested person was neither a relative nor a party worker. “He was a street vendor and had taken a room on rent during lockdown for a month”, he said.
The MLA does not live on the property now and he had no information about the room given to Ajay, the representative said. On June 26 night, over a dozen armed dacoits had raided the house of a Tata Steel employee, Umesh Mandal, at Purnadih village under Tundi police station and robbed jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh and Rs 50,000.
Two alleged robbers, Samim Ansari and Nazir Ansari, were arrested along with the stolen items on June 27. Both had disclosed names of their accomplices, including that of Ajay Sab.
