J’khand BJP declares new state committee; mix of old, new faces and turncoats
RANCHI: Members of Parliament, current and former legislators, previous officer bearers, besides new faces including those who joined the party ahead of the assembly elections and after were some of the prominent faces who found place in the new state committee of the Jharkhand BJP declared by state unit president Deepak Prakash on Friday night.
Prakash, who got elected to Rajya Sabha last month, also named presidents of the party’s different wings including Women, Youth, Other Backward Class, Scheduled Tribes and Castes, Farmers and Minority, besides announcing new district presidents of 19 of its 27 organisational district units in the state.
Prakash was appointed Jharkhand BJP president in February, soon after the party’s debacle in the assembly elections, and his new team was much awaited but got delayed largely due to the lockdown. Prakash had called upon party president JP Nadda earlier this week as is said to have discussed the probable names before making the final list official.
The new state committee has eight vice-presidents, three general secretaries, and eight secretaries. Some of the prominent names among the vice-presidents include Chatra MP Sunil Singh, Koderma MP Annapurna Devi, former JVM (P) leader Vinod Sharma and Nirsa legislator Aparna Sengupta.
Among the general secretaries, some of the prominent names include Rajya Sabha MP Samir Oraon, Aditya Sahu and Pradeep Verma.
The party has also named a panel of seven spokespersons, which has new and young faces such as former MLA Kunal Sarangi, and Pratul Shahdeo.
Party insiders said the new team is an attempt on the part of the leadership to adjust all factions and have a good mix of experience and youth.
“There is no denying the fact that factions would exist in such a large party like ours. But, all sections and factions have found place in the team, which reflects both continuity and change, with several old faces such as Sunil Singh, Aditya Sahu and Pradeep Verma, being repeated even with their designations changed as well as youngsters getting key roles,” a senior party leader said.
“The party has also given critical positions to new entrants such as Annapurna Devi, Aparna Sengupta, JP Patel, Kunal Sarangi, Vinod Sharma who came from different parties. Some of the legislators who lost elections have also found place in the team such as Raj Paliwar, Shiv Shankar Oraoan, while some old faces have returned to key positions after a gap such as former spokespersons Pradeep Sinha and Prem Mittal,” the leader added.
