In VC with Modi, Bihar BJP presents its Covid relief work

PATNA: With an eye on close to 22 lakh migrants who returned to Bihar during lockdown, the state unit of BJP went out of way to help them with an open arm.

The state party president Dr Sanjay Jaiswal said on Saturday that the party provided transporta­tion facilities to 2.11 lakh migrants, 5.50 lakh food packets among them and took special care of migrants by organizing and involving them in cultural and social activities at quarantine centres. “The party organised 16,583 such activities so that migrants living in quarantine centres remained mentally alert,” said Jaiswal, while presenting a report to PM Narendra Modi about the relief work done by party’s Bihar unit under the programme ‘Sewa Hi Sangathan’.

Jaiswal said that during the entire lockdown period, different units of the state distribute­d 26.18 lakh ration packets, 28.82 lakh food packets and 1.14 lakh masks made by women workers of the BJP.

“The youth wing of the party organised blood donation camps and food was distribute­d in 23,568 poor bastis,” he added.

PM Modi lauded the work done by Bihar BJP and said, “Workers of Bihar BJP and the people deserve congratula­tions. Many people were saying that Covid-19 will spread faster in eastern parts of the country due to high temperatur­es. People used to say there is poverty in Bihar, coronaviru­s will spread more here. But you all have proved it wrong.”

He also lauded the efforts of state government in providing relief.

BJP national president J P Nadda also lauded the work by the Bihar unit in managing the quarantine centres. He said that the party provided food to 22 crore people during the lockdown, and distribute­d 80 lakh sanitisers and 2.5 crore face covers.
