PATNA: Kesaria in East Champaran received extremely heavy rain while western and central parts of Bihar received heavy rain, said an official of Patna Meteorological Centre on Sunday.

As per the daily bulletin, Kesaria received 250 mm of rain — the highest in the state — followed by Lalbagia ghat in Motihari with 110 mm of rain. Marhaura in Saran recorded 90 mm rain, Jalalpur 80 mm while Patna, Gopaloganj, Sheohar, Chhapra and Rewaghat recorded 70 mm rain each during the past 24 hours.

Meteorologist confirmed that Kesaria is the only place in the state which recorded extremely heavy rain this monsoon season.

Duty officer SK Patel, said, “A low pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal. Easterly winds are bringing moisture from Bay of Bengal to Bihar. Due to moisture incursion, the state will not receive heavy rain but several places are likely to expect light to moderate rain.”

“Thunderstorm and lightning activities will also reduce for the next few days,” he said

He added, “Isolated places of north Bihar will mostly likely witness rain while south districts may receive widespread rain on July 6.”

Meanwhile, waterlogging woes in the capital city continued for third consecutive day. The storm water has entered into several government offices, including district education office and residence of agriculture minister Prem Kumar and road and construction minister Nand Kishor Yadav.

to drain out the rainwater and dry up the city.

Water suction machines were spotted at several places in the city on Sunday to soak the accumulated water.

Shiv Puri resident Harsha Verma said, “Water suction machine moves only in posh localities. We have to wait for natural draining of water which might take a week.”

“Water accumulation for longer period also increases chances of mosquito breeding in the locality,” he said.
