KOTA: The widow of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable Hemraj Meena, who was killed in a terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pulwama on February 14, 2019, has accused the Congress MLA from Sangod, Bharat Singh, of creating obstacles in the development of a Shaheed Smriti Park at the martyr’s village.

Singh categorically refuted the allegation and claimed that he has got the martyr’s statue prepared from his MLA local area development (LAD) fund, which will be soon installed at the government college in Sangod whose name has been kept on the martyr’s name.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the slain soldier’s wife, Madhubala Meena, said, “Rajasthan government has not fulfilled the promises and not erected martyr Hemraj Meena’s statue at Adalat Chauraha in Sangod, while Sangod MLA Bharat Singh is also creating obstacles in the development of Shaheed Smriti Park at the martyr’s village, Vinod Kalan.”

“The boundary wall on three sides and ground levelling work at the park were completed in the village with Rs 10 lakh allocated by Kota MP and Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, last year, but feeling the requirement of more funds, Birla further facilitated allocation of Rs 20 lakhs from the

MP LAD fund of Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Goel also in September 2019,” she said.

The speaker entrusted KK Birla Memorial Trust of the Chambal Fertilizers and chemicals limited (CFCL), Gadepan (Kota), as the executive agency to develop the park, she said.

CFCL’s trust submitted the development plan of Shaheed Smriti Park to the Kota Zila Parishad, which issued sanction to the park on February 13 this year. “Singh pressured CFCL officials not to carry out the park development with the funds from an outsider MP and warned of consequences if they went ahead with the work. So, now the development work of the park has stopped,” she alleged.

She also alleged that the public representatives of the state government had also promised to construct a road to the martyr’s house in Sangod and lay a drinking water pipeline, but such projects are still pending.

The Congress MLA has categorically denied the charges calling them “baseless”.

“I have full respect for the martyr, his widow and entire family and the government college in Sangod has been named on martyr Hemraj Meena’s name by state government on our insistence,” he said.

“I have given Rs 25 lakh from my MLA LAD fund for the establishment of the statue of martyr Hemraj Meena in the government college of Sangod. The statue of martyr is ready and development works for its erection in the college is underway,” he added.

When specifically asked about the Shaheed Smriti Park, Singh said, “I am not aware about the development of Shaheed Smriti Park by Om Birla’s MP LAD fund, as it is not my concern, so why should I create obstacle in that work?” He alleged that the charges against him were “politically motivated”.
