MEERUT : The health authorities have cancelled the licence of a hospital for its staff’s alleged involvement in making fake corona negative certificates in exchange for money. The hospital has been sealed and a police inquiry has been initiated after an FIR was registered against hospital manager Shah Alam.
Chief medical officer Dr Rajkumar said that an official of the health department registered a case against the hospital soon after two videos went viral on social media in which hospital staff was seen negotiating with a person for providing him corona negative certificate for money. In another video, the staff was seen explaining consequences to him and his family members if the report came positive.
The matter was taken seriously and also brought to the notice of the district administration. After an initial inquiry, the health department cancelled the license of the hospital and also sealed it. The CMO said that the identified hospital was situated on Hapur Road and it was operational for the past 11 years.
A case was been registered against its manager Shah Alam in Lisari Gate police station on Saturday. “Now police will investigate since how long they were involved in such a malpractice and who all were responsible for it”, said the CMO.
Corona test is mandatory for patients undergoing surgeries, deliveries and treatment of other ailments. Sources in the health department said people might be interested in seeking negative report to avoid process of quarantine for family members and patient if they tested positive.
The tests for corona are being conducted only in government labs of medical college and district hospital, therefore it will be interesting to know how the staff of this private hospital managed certificates from there or issued fake certificates to earn illegal money.
Dr Anil Nausaran, secretary of IMA Meerut chapter, said that speculation was rife that staff of a few hospitals and quacks were involved in unethical practices during pandemic and he himself had raised the issue before the health authorities to identify and punish them.
