Delhi panel sends final notice to FB India exec
A fresh notice has been issued by the Delhi Assembly’s peace and harmony committee to Facebook India vice president and managing director Ajit Mohan to ensure his presence for deposing before the panel on September 23.
Any defiance to the subsequent notice for appearance will be deemed to be an act of “breach of the constitution ally guaranteed privileges” of the committee, warned a statement issued by the panel on Sunday.
The final warning to the social media company was issued by the committee chaired by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raghav Chadha as Mohan did not appear for his deposition during the last meeting of the panel.
Chadha had said the non-appearance of the top Facebook official to depose before the committee was a contempt of the Delhi Legislative Assembly as well as the people of the national Capital.
He had insisted that Facebook must honour the proceedings taking place under Delhi’s state legislature in the same manner as they did for a parliamentary standing committee.
“Any rebuttal or disregard to this subsequent notice shall be deemed as a wilful act of breach of privilege,” the statement said.
The committee had taken cognizance of the accusations against Facebook for its alleged “complicity” in the northeast Delhi riots of February earlier this year.
SRINAGAR: Authorities in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir have ordered a magisterial inquiry into the allegations of custodial death of a youth from Sopore town earlier this week.
The inquiry officer on Sunday asked people, including the relatives of the deceased, to record their statements about the incident.
Additional district magistrate, Baramulla, has been appointed by deputy commissioner, Baramulla, G N Itoo as an inquiry officer to conduct a magisterial enquiry into the circumstances of the death of Irfan Ahmad Dar.
Protests had erupted in north Kashmir’s Sopore town after Dar (23) allegedly died in police custody on Tuesday. While the police said the youth escaped from custody and his body was found later, the youth’s family claimed it was a “murder in custody”.
“The public in general and the close relatives of the deceased Irfan Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Akbar Dar of Sidiq Colony, Sopore, along with the persons having knowledge about the case in particular, are hereby informed through the medium of this notice to record their statements regarding the knowledge about the alleged custodial death of the deceased before the enquiry officer,” a notice issued by the inquiry officer said.
The officer also provided a schedule for recording the statements.
The District Magistrate has asked the inquiry officer to submit the inquiry report within 20 days.
