JAMSHEDPUR: Four more foreigners staying at a hotel under Bistupur police station in Jamshedpur tested positive for Covid-19, while samples of three persons returning from Germany were collected from another hotel under same police station by late Saturday night, officials said on Sunday.

“Four more foreigners staying at Hotel Fortune Centre Point tested Covid-19 positive late Saturday evening. They were among the 46 foreigners who came to the city from different countries between December 5 and 8 for working at Tata Steel pellet plant. We have also taken samples of three persons coming to the city from Germany and staying at Hotel Ramada for testing in wake of detection of new Covid-19 strain in United Kingdom (UK) and its spread in European countries,” Dr Sahir Pal, district surveillance officer (DSO) cum Jamshedpur additional chief medical officer (ACMO), said.

Following this, it has been decided not to reopen Hotel Fortune Centre Point for the time being, Dr Pal said .

“We are awaiting test reports of the three foreigners coming from Germany before deciding about Hotel Ramada. The trio has been quarantined in the hotel till their reports come,” added Dr Pal.

Earlier, Hotel Fortune Centre Point was sealed after 12 foreigners had tested positive on December 31 and January 1 along with a local hotel staff. Dr Pal said the 12 foreigners have tested negative now.

Meanwhile, sealing was withdrawn from a building block in Chota Govindpur after all its 264 residents tested negative late Saturday evening. The building had been sealed after five persons coming to the city from Bihar had tested Covid-19 positive a couple of days ago.
