MAN HELD FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING MINOR SIBLINGS

JAMSHEDPUR: A 35-year-old man was arrested and sent to jail on charges of sexually assaulting and trying to rape a five-year-old girl and her fouryear-old brother after luring them with sweets into a dark alley at Bajrangnagar under Golmuri police station in Jamshedpur on Sunday, police said on Monday.

The arrested accused was identified as Mohsin Hasan Khan.

“We arrested Mohsin under POCSO Act on Sunday on charges of sexually assaulting and trying to rape a neighbouring five-year-old girl and her fouryear-old brother late Saturday evening. The parents of the minor victims had lodged a police complaint around 10.30pm on Saturday. The accused has been sent to jail after Covid-19 test, while the medical tests of both the victims were done Monday. Their statements will be recorded in a court under Section 164 of CrPc on Tuesday,” Arvind Kumar, Golmuri police station officer in-charge (OC), said.

As per available information, Mohsin lured the minor sister and brother from his neighbourhood with chocolates and toffees into an alley late Saturday evening. He then allegedly undressed the girl and tried to rape her, while sexually assaulting the boy. Mohsin, who works as a truck cleaner, had then sent the minors to their home after threatening them to keep their mouths shut.

“Both were not eating anything that night after returning home. When we enquired, they narrated the ordeal. Afterwards, we went to Golmuri police and lodged a complaint against Mohsin. We want exemplary punishment for him,” said the mother of the victims.
