JAMSHEDPUR: Jharkhand has a reason to cheer as Jamshedpur’s Ayati Mishra and Chaibasa’s Bhuvnesh Kumar Pradhan earned Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s accolades for their speech in National Youth Parliament (NYP) late Tuesday evening.

The Steel City had more reasons to be proud, as Ayati was adjudged the runner-up after Mudita Mishra from Uttar Pradesh won in the NYP, which was attended by 2.34 lakh youths from across the country.

The PM tweeted and shared Ayati and Mudita’s speech late Tuesday evening, after the NYP was held at central hall of the Parliament. “I was delighted to hear Ayati Mishra talk about the need to make India self-reliant and boost prosperity among our citizens,” the PM tweeted, attaching a video of Ayati’s speech. He also singled out Bhuvnesh Kumar Pradhan for his speech linking Vocal for Local mission with the ideas of stalwarts such as Swami Vivekananda.

NYP was started in 2019, with 88,000 students in the age group of 18-25 years as participants. The second NYP was held on December 23 last year, in which 2.34 lakh youths participated online during the Covid-19 pandemic. A national jury comprising MPs Roopa Ganguly, Parvesh Berma and journalist Prafulla Ketkar and others had selected 29 national winners, including Ayati and Bhuvnesh, for the final round held Tuesday evening.

“Swadeshi is just not a word but our identity. Whichever big foreign brand we see today, they were also local at some time.

They became big brands by being vocal for local. We also need to act on the same formula to make Indian brands big internationally. We ought to make our culture visible across the globe, along with giving our economy a new paradigm and international dimension,” Ayati said in her speech.

Ayati hails from Baridih locality of Jamshedpur and completed her schooling from Hill Top School in Telco. She is presently pursuing graduation in Economics and Political Science from Gokhale Institute of Economics in Pune (Maharashtra).

“It was the most cherished moment of my life. I am proud and happy that I got an opportunity to address the youths of the country in front of the PM. There can be no bigger award than the PM listening to my speech and applauding it,” said Ayati.

Ayati’s father Pinak Mishra works at Tata Ryerson here, while her mother Ekta Mishra is a teacher at Baridih High School here. “Ayati has always been among school toppers. She passed Class 12 this year and is now studying in Pune. Apart from academics, she always leads in singing and debating. She was also among our 12 students who had gone to UNO last year,” said Punita B Chouhan, principal of Hill Top School.

Bhuvnesh Kumar Pradhan hails from Madar Jahar village under Naxal-hit Sonua block of West Singhbhum (Chaibasa) district of Jharkhand.

He completed his schooling from Central School in Meghahataburu in Saranda and is presently studying at Karim City College in Jamshedpur.

His father Dinesh Kumar Pradhan is the principal in-charge of Project Plus-2 High School in Kiriburu.
