Now, agitating para teachers gherao ministers’ houses
RANCHI: Intensifying their ongoing agitation, para teachers on Sunday gheraoed residences of Jharkhand ministers, demanding speedy action against their long-pending demands, including regularisation of services and fixation of payment.
Earlier, the para teachers had demonstrated outside residences of legislators of ruling parties on January 17.
The teachers, under the banner of Ekikrit Para Sikshak Sangharsh Morcha (EPSSM), marched to the residences of ministers in their respective districts and staged demonstration. The ministers also addressed para teachers at many places, assuring that the government was serious over their issues and a solution would soon come to the fore.
Hundreds of para teachers staged demonstration before the residence of rural development minister Alamgir Alam. The minister, while addressing the teachers, said, “The government is serious over their issues. It is working on a permanent solution to the problem.”
“Such policies take some time, as we want one which will be valuable for a long time,” the minister said.
On the other hand, at state finance minister Rameshwar Oraon’s residence, a three-member delegation of Congress party, sent by the minister, talked to the para teachers. The teachers submitted a memorandum to the delegation. The minister asked the teachers to be patient, as the government was working on a solution.
EPSSM member Sanjay Dubey said, “Like the previous government, this government is also giving only assurances. But, we now want a solution to our problems. So, as part of our agitation, we gheraoed residences of eight
Jharkhand ministers on Sunday.”
He said the government had set up a committee to sort out their issues. “The committee submitted its report. As per our information, the government has also drafted a regulation. But, we do not know why there is a delay in its declaration,” he said.
“If our demands were not met, we have decided to demonstrate at the chief minister’s residence on February 10. The demonstration has been named as Wada Pura Karo Pradarshan (fulfil promises demonstration),” he said.
The para teachers have been demanding regularisation of their services, wage fixation and disbursement of salaries to untrained teachers, which they claimed are pending for past 19 months.
On November 16, 2018, over 65,000 teachers from across the state had went on a strike in support of their demands. It ended after 63 days January 3, 2019, after the then government decided to increase remuneration up to ₹4,800 and study regularisation system of other states.
