Year’s first cold wave alert, state capital shivers at 6.9 °C
RANCHI: The year’s first cold wave was issued by Ranchi centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday, with the night temperature falling by seven degrees below the normal, weather officials said.
Cold wave situation prevailed in many parts of Jharkhand, particularly in north-west, central and southern regions of the state, on Sunday. Weather officials said similar weather conditions would prevail till February 3 and the night temperature might fall by one to two degrees from the existing.
Giridih shivered at the state’s lowest temperature at 5.1 degree Celsius.
However, a major fall below the normal was recorded in Chaibasa, which registered minimum temperature at 6.6 degree Celsius on Sunday, 6.9 degrees below the normal.
State capital Ranchi shivered at 6.9 degree Celsius, four degrees below the normal, while Jamshedpur recorded minimum at 7.8 degree Celsius. Daltonganj registered 5.3 degree Celsius, 5.1 degrees below the normal, while Bokaro recorded night temperature at 6.1 degree
Celsius, 3.5 degrees below the normal.
Deputy director at Ranchi Centre of IMD, Abhishek Anand, said, “North-westerly and northerly cold winds prevailing in lower level of Jharkhand are leading to fall in night temperature by three to seven degrees. Similar weather conditions could prevail for next two days with possible a fall of one
to two degrees.”
He said, “Clear sky will provide comfort to people during the day due to unrestricted sunlight.”
However, night temperature might rise from February 4 due to impact of western disturbance. Major parts of the state are likely to witness cloudy skies with possibility of light rains.
